Project Scope:  CRL was very proud to win this bid for this project. The scope was unlike many that CRL is usually tasked to master. The pride was generated from the trust our client provided CRL in attacking such a monumental and high profile project. The standard start to most second generation projects are the same; demolition. This time that also involved the side of a multi-story building and 3 feet of the slab depth. All that room was necessary to house a 45,000 lb Hyperbaric chamber. But first CRL had to organize a mechanical room within just the first few weeks. This mechanical room provided back up tanks, storage for deluge water systems and emergency power generators. This was the first of many hurdles during the undertaking. Next was a reinforced concrete slab with very precise measurements. The real text for the concrete did not come until the largest hurdle was in place; the chamber. The chamber arrived on a Friday on the back of a flat bed and was accompanied the next morning by a very large crane. The tedious task of landing the enormous tank through an opening only (about 1 foot wider than the diameter of the unit) was smoothly accomplished. From the parking lot it had to fly over trees into position. All of this took nearly 8 hours to accomplish. Once it was in place, teams went to work immediately assembling the gas systems that would provide the oxygen to the treatment chamber. A special raised flooring system was established around the tank so access could be maintained. An exterior 02 gas storage tank farm had to also be constructed to precise specifications. All these procedures were heavily inspected by State, County and City officials to meet or exceed predetermined parameters. During construction the remaining building was uninterrupted and infectious control as well as safety was a top priority. At the end of the exciting project the finishes polished off the technical challenges to produce a beautiful build-out and a gem facility for the HyOx Doctors to provide care to the new area.
